In an effort to grow and improve their tires, Heidenau will be offering some changes to the tried and true K60 Scout.

This coming January we will be introducing a new compound for the K60 Scout 150/70 B 17, the Cold Climate compound (CC). This CC tire will be offered alongside the normal K60 Scout, and not replacing it. Gaining a reputation as the tire of choice among world travelers and weekend warriors, The K60 Scout is known for dependability and longevity; but some have not always been satisfied with the traction in cold, wet conditions. Specifically, the 150/70 B 17. To address this Heidenau has created a compound formulated to deliver similar performance in colder conditions. Warm weather riders might see a reduction in mileage compared to what they are used to with a Scout in return for an increase in street traction. Colder climates will find a great tire that preforms dependably wet or dry and delivers the value and performance they expect.

The same sturdy belted construction has been used, ensuring the dependable performance off-road riders expect. The change has been made to the tread compound only making for better adhesion in wet conditions. It is possible some riders might see a reduction in mileage of about 10%. Pricing will be the same as the current K60 Scout.

  1. Where can I obtain the K60 Scout 150/70 B 17, the Cold Climate compound (CC) tire? Is there a Tube Type available in this CC compound in this size? I am in Ottawa Canada. Many thanks. Bill.

    I wonder if Heidenau is planning to release similiar compund tires in other sizes – while (due to global warming) northern Europe is getting its share of tropical heat in the sumnmer, winter became a part of the season with generally above 0 Celsius temperatures – it (along with autumn and spring) provides more than a few cold (but not freezing-cold, that would prohibit riding) and wet days and in general I’m more than happy to sacrifice some mileage for grip – but my bike is using 130/80 R17 tires.
    For me the thing is simple – while mileage is great, It’s the grip that saves lives in extreme situations and gives me confidence on and off road.

    Hello, these tire questions are for a 1983 R 80 G/S BMW Front wheel 1.85B- 21 with recommended 3.00 – 21 R48 tire. Rear wheel is 2.15B-18 with recommended 4.00 -18 R64 tire.Gross weight front tire 392 pounds, rear tire 595 pounds, maximum speed 105 mph. Tube type tires. Will a 4.60 – 18 tire fit on this motorcycle? Do you make a K 60 in 4.00 x 18 with no continuous strip down the center in the cold climate or snow compounds with silica? Same question on the K 60 90/90-21 54T tube type? Could you send me pictures of those tread patterns and is that 21 inch tire correct for the G/S? Also why do you not make a K 67 front tire in 3.00 x 21 and a higher load rating and speed rating then your 2.75 in the K 67 series? PS I’ve got three years on K 60 scouts old compound on a 1990 GSPD and it is not the greatest in the rain and cold. I am one rider that would trade mileage for a little better grip. Please let me know if any other Tires you make that might be suitable for the Spike thank you
